Fear

They say to not care what they say

They say to not care about what they think

They say it's okay to stand out

But what they don't understand

Is it is exactly they

Who we care so much about

Our whole lives we are taught

To act, dress, and play the part

Only to look civil

Like we belong

When they told us

"their opinions don't matter" all along

That we should stand out

Be our own self

But being your own self

Means being with no one else

So we play on anyway

To be who they like

Only we come home to hide who we are

Behind closed doors at night

They say you get used to it

And honestly, that's true

You're so scared of being alone

That you're okay with not being you.

This poem is about:
Me
Our world
