Fading Candles

Friendly and golden it lies there waiting A simple candle with the flame so bright It brings small light as the days fading Sitting on the bedroom desk through the night Days go by, shining with all of its strength Warming and cold fingers, lighting dark spaces The wick burns on, slowly losing its length Yet no appreciation on our faces The lively flame now down to his last day Fingers become cold, it’s such a sad thought It takes one final breath and goes away Finally noticing the joy it brought Do not forget these small flickers of light These miniature flames may be the most bright
