Extraordinary not Extra-ordinary

The expectation was average, it was the norm, and

Coming from a naive world, the expectation was not enough.

I am bilingual not because I wanted to but because I had to, and

Coming from a naive world, the expectations were low.

I struggled in elementary school; I struggled in middle school,

And still, the expectations remained low.

Some help was needed but none was ask, but it was okay, because I was average.

The time came when someone saw, that average was just a mask.

‘Who is this person that cares so much?’

And expected me to do much more

‘She wants me to try, she wants me to rise,

But how so when the expectations are not high?’

Four years of motion and she stands behind,

As she witnesses the bar stand high.

But coming from naive world, the expectations did not seem so low.

Eight years ago, she told me I would go,

To the place, not all could call goals.

Rewind three years ago, when she took her last breath,

But her words remained there.

She took her time, and she made an effort,

And to her I’m thankful.

Because despite the doubts and the discouragements,

She was aware of what I could offer.

She knew I could be what others didn’t see.

But coming from a naïve world, the expectations are low.

However, today that is not the goal.
