Evolution

Since I was young

I was told family had to be number one.

They’d have your back through thick and thin,

And defend you from every sin.

For all these years I’ve lived those words as my law,

Not allowing my icy exterior to thaw.

To those who wanted to come between

My family and me.

Now I am older and I’ve noticed some things,

Family isn’t always there, and they are not everything.

Now what I’ve just said isn’t entirely true,

Family is important through and through.

I’ve decided now that family does not equal blood relations,

Family means people you can always rely on in dire situations.
