Escape

Senseless violence follows you like a shadow, like it’s all you’ve ever known,

Into here

A place we hoped and prayed and idealistically expected would be your safe haven,

A place for you to start anew, to be the person that you would have been

Had the world not already groomed you into this

Cruel beast,

The façade that’s slowly becoming you

and suffocating the life beneath it.

I see your need to be the big man in here

To protect yourself

But what’s the point?

Why protect this fiend that you’ve become?

This was supposed to be your second chance

Your third chance

Your fourth!

But you fight on and on, not against your true rival,

Not against the life that has turned you into this…

This smug gangster, a “straight up G.”

Oh no, you’re only left fighting now to be the baddest of the bad,

The ring leader, the shot-caller, the sickest motherfucker that ain’t nobody gonna mess with.

But we keep giving you a chance,

And another,

And another,

To be the man that you would be

Had we not let you down in the first place.
