Empty City

The rain was

pelting

pelting

pelting

everything

as a young person ripped through New York streets

like his feet were actually parts of a jet engine.

It was after dark, but Manhattan never actually

  becomes dark,

with the noise

and the flashes

and the restless people.

Young restless people in a mid-aged restless city

creating a humble and a bumble,

spreading a false sense of inclusion,

but actually just distracting everyone from how

  fucking miserable they are.

The city loves your pen and your pain,

sirens' wails will cover yours,

and nobody really cares about anyone.
