Echos

She looked at her and said, ‘ you don’t know you’re beautiful, do you?’

And that’s when she ran in attempt to cut off all ties

It was true, she didn’t know she was beautiful

It was through schooling, and the pressure of society that taught her that she would never be enough

And that she didn’t deserve love, because after all boys would only judge her by the size of her thighs, and not the sparkle in her eyes

And so she continued to run,

Only with the faint glow of streetlights guiding her anywhere but here

Sirens echoed through the city,

Singing their enchanting song

If only they were coming for her

To save her from the demon she’d been fighting for so long;

herself.

And she ran to the sea,

So the only sirens she heard were the beautiful women of the depths,

But even they couldn’t save her from her inflicted self destruction.
