Drowning

Location

I saw the surface above me,

Shimmering, bright.

The sunlight pouring in,

Golden rays through the waves.

Sinking,

Farther down,

No matter how hard I kick.

Thrashing in the water,

Screaming.

No one can hear…

Ice forming above,

Enclosing me.

Fear gripping my heart;

Surely I’ll die now?

Running out of air,

Desperate to breathe.

To live.

I want to live.

I WANT TO LIVE.

Someone, save me!

Please…

No strength left,

I fail.

I fall.

Lost in the swirling waves.
