Don't Glow Up, Blackbird (Grow Up Jenny Wren)

In the beginning,

I was a little brown and white bird,

Full of a carefree song,

Safe in the warm nest of my mother's world.

As I grew,

I remained strangely small,

And terribly confused,

Why was everything so big and scary, when I was grown after all?

I never knew,

I was a bird out of place,

The world sees black and white,

But I was a Jenny Wren, with a coffee and cream face.

Pressure came swift,

As did demands for me to lose

Who I thought I was

And fly under the color they would have me choose.

Compromise was inevitable,

But I decided to be

Not a glowed up a Blackbird

But a strong, little Jenny Wren, proud and carefree!
