Do Not Tell Me

Do not tell me that you are an ally of the LGBTQ+ community

If you go home at night and refuse to believe your daughter is gay

Simply because she may not give you the grandchildren you want

Do not tell me you support all styles of life

When you belittle your son for discovering makeup

And force him to play football and “be a man”

Do not tell me that you are there for the gay community

When you stand to the side and watch

As your fellow students crumble under the weight of the rest of the school

Too scared to fight for themselves

Do not tell me to stop making “being gay” my personality trait

When I fought for years to love myself

Love my mind, my body, my life

We have are not animals for your enjoyment

Our love lives are not there for you to fetishize

Treat us like who we are meant to be treated as

Human.
