Distractions

Distraction. Distractions. Thoughts that redirect the fractions of your concentration to another action.

Words that rhyme with action: Traction. Fraction. Sanction.

Sanction. Sanction doesn't quite fit. Penalty. Disapproval. Punishment. Sounds a bit like Santuary. A place of safety. Clean.

A hospital can be a sanctuary. Pity they can't help to cure distractions.

I love distractions.

Well I don't really love them, but I don't hate them either. They're like your favorite vegetable. I'd rather it be a piece of cake, but I don't dislike the taste or anything. It's sort of-- I'm getting off topic.

In other words, I'm getting distracted. This can lead to procrastination, never getting to the point, losing interest, et cetera. Et cetera.

So why do I love them?

Well, there's this sort magic in distractions. It's not strong enough to make your problem disappear, but like a magician's trick it can redirect your focus and show you soming meant to entertain.

But they are decietful. You can't just keep pulling bunnies out of a hat

There's not enough carrots

And if there were, everyone would be fat

But carrots are healthy, so we'd all have eyes like hawks

Maybe then we'd be able to see

When we

have been distracted.

Times and places are important. For example,

Test, interview, work-- bad time for a distraction

Family tragedy-good time

She or He doesn't love you? There couldn't be a better time.

I remember when he was my distraction.

And now I need a distraction from a distraction.

So when I can't stop thinking about him, or how he finds me unattractive and childish, or how he's in love with someone else, I go on FaceBook. YouTube. Twitter. I even got a MySpace

Because when I'm thinking and I can't stop thinking about what I'm thinking, I try thinking about something else.

I distract myself.

And it works
