Different Here, Normal There

I was the kid from another country.

Not once,

But twice.

And I still am.

I was the kid with a different accent.

What is normal here, is different there

And different here, normal there.

But who’s to say which is normal?

I am the kid with different families.

A family in the United States,

A family in India.

A family of friends and relatives

My family on opposite ends of a stick.

I am the kid with two different experiences.

Two different languages.

Two different cuisines.

One me.
