Descriptively Me

I am a cancer survivor

My experiences have made me all the wiser

My surroundings are my reminders

And life, its binders

I am impaired but not broken

I will never stop hoping

Laughter is coping

And life, its own token

I am vertically challenged

But no, not damaged

My accommodations are managed

And life, is reexamined

I am one to bear witness

Of symptoms of a thyroid illness

Along with diabetes insipidus

And life, attempts to inhibit

I am not measured by my partial blindness

But by my one-of-a-kindness

I disregard these as my confinements

And life, makes alignments

I am a college student

Seeking personal improvement

Time is my movement

And life, the solution

I am here, I am present

My perspective has freshened

Diagnosed as an adolescent

And life, is pleasant

I am one to owe it to family

For their support for me

We are strung together like a tapestry

And our lives, are lived valiantly

Hello readers,

this poem is a glimpse of my past, present, and future in which I describe numerous strugles faced in my life, most of which are still being managed. I was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor, CNS germinoma, at the age of 16 and my survival has allowed me to take a different perspective on life. Other diagnoses soon followed, but the support of my family allowd me to cope. Ultimately, it was their help that allowed me to face the struggles of treatment, and I cannot begin to share my gratitude.
