Declans Poem

I know what it felt like to be without work
And to be without a girlfriend, to befriend
people I shouldn't have befriended , done things I wouldn't
consider doing now with my time.
I wish I wrote to you more, you are my brother,
we used to construct whole universes out of legos
we used to talk music and I was always excited
to see you in your band and writing lyrics for them
That time we all hung out after your gig
in Richmond, Virginia was historic in my eyes
That was before they tore JEB Stuart down
from his horse.
If they got to doing that yet.
I feel out of touch from you and isolated , and maybe there's
that fear I have that you are envious of me for being
out on my own, when that is your wish too, to taste your
independence again
It will happen to you. I thought it would never come for me.
And it did come, but all on its own.
You will see
