Debt on Debt

The U.S National Deficit May 6, 2014 at 11:47 am: $17,512,474,434,230

Like a law of nature

The more time that passes

The more that red number grows

And as a result, the higher the ceiling goes

I’m told we must live in this skewed reality in order to maintain a standard of living

I’m starting to think that’s just the American mentality

Just look at our society

Pretending things are a necessity when in reality they are empty luxuries

Credit cards. Big houses. Fancy cars.

Debt

It allows for a façade

And we love to haphazardly take it on

I skim The Good Book for answers

The truth is

I can’t defend the way we live

I can’t defend the way I live

Why do I take more than I give?

Why do I crave more things?

Why do I always suffice the enemy and deprive morality?

It’s the shadow of greed
