Death and the Lost

The darkness envelopes me,

Wrapping its arms around me.

It hushes my cries,

And wipes the tears from my eyes.

"Shh... I am right here,"

It whispers, quiet, in my ear.

"So long as I am here, you will never be lonely,"

It continues slowly.

"I will always be with you;

There is no need to be blue."

The darkness comforts me,

And it welcomes me.

It feels almost like home, and

I feel warmth spread through my bones.

"You are lost," it says.

"I can set you free, but it comes at a cost."

It strokes my hair, but then

Something changes in the air.

Its grip tightens around me,

And slowly suffocates me.
