Dear Teacher

Dear Teacher,

Look around your classroom

Do you notice how many of your students are sad?

Or stressed?

Why not speak up?

If someone is shaking with nerves you turn your head

The time is now

Stand up, walk over.

Tell your students that its okay to shake,

to break

Tell your students that you get sad sometimes too

That life is not all high school

with homework and books

That they can mend, like you did all those years ago

Let them know that you are human

That you can feel.

Stop treating your students like they owe you something

When all they want is to get through the day

When all they want is to not break.

Dear teacher,

The window of opportunity shines

It glisens.

You want these kids to do your work,

To treat you with respect, to not question you.

Then you must give them something

You must give them you.
