Deadman's Homecoming

Years before I knew your face,

back when I was quite lost

I felt no care, no love, no hope

I knew they had a cost.

A chisel to my hardened heart

you broke through to my soul

and there I learned to love you

for your presence made me whole.

But my life here is a warzone

The cross-hairs aimed at you

And so I took your place in death

Or so that’s what you knew

You asked me yet one favor,

To be there at your side.

You should have known I couldn’t have

my lover’s wish denied.
