Aposiopesis
Noun
[ap-uh-sahy-uh-pee-sis]
1. a sudden breaking off in the midst of a sentence, as if from inability or unwillingness to proceed.
Origin:
Aposiopesis comes from the Greek word of the same spelling that translates to “a full silence.” It is ultimately derived from the Greek verb siōpáein meaning “to be silent.” Aposiopesis entered English in the mid-1500s.
““And that’s the difference between me and you. I would lay it all on the table and give you whatever you needed even if it meant hurting myself in the process but you only cared about the bare minimum: what made you happy and what didn’t inconvenience you. I love you but...” she looked down, shrugged, and turned away with admirable aposiopesis.”
