The Dance

As I think and reflect on what my life was,

I'm glad I overcame all that this life does.

This life we live is but a dance,

Dodging grief and unsteadiness with our bare hands.

We break and we cry, we fear most of all;

But with my Creator I know I'll never fall.

You see, my fear isn't always spiders and heights--

Sometimes it's my reflection when I look in the mirror at night.

It isn't always pleasant, and sometimes it's downright bad,

But I know somehow I can be just as glad

As I was as a child,

Because heaven knows, I made my reflection worth all the while.

You see, my fear isn't always bad food and crowded places--

Sometimes it's the insecurity that chases

Who I'm trying to become.

It isn't always easy, and sometimes I want to give up;

But I know for certain God wouldn't have that,

No--He would have me to stand up.

As I think and reflect on what my life was,

I'm glad I overcame all that this life does.

This life we live is but a dance,

Chasing who we want to be when we just can't.

We break and we cry, we fear nonetheless;

But with my Creator, I can stand up and dance.
