My Compass rose, in sync with yours
You are the two heads, to my oars,
I thank the wind, the land, the sea,
That God has washed you to my shores

I spent so long in the looking glass
To find a mate beyond my mast
In time, the grime, tore up my sail
And down was I, all much to fast

The fod rolled in, but out your ship
Just as I had begun to slip
Over she went, port side splashed in first
With the keep straight up, my soul had flipped

You barreled through my wretched brake
In need of help was I in your wake
You gave me hope I wouldnt drown
When two strong hands pulled me from my ache

Such a healing touch you had on me
Fixed what had been broken and bruised by the sea
You stole my heart when you held me tight
I felt my love was finally free

My compass rose, in sync with yours
You are the two heads, to my oars
I thank the wind, the land, the sea,
That God has washed you to my shores

This is really good! Your mastery of the English language is evident in your writing. Upon only listening to your poem, I thought you would rhyme drown with down and then was thrown for a loop when you said ache. Throughout the poem you have not strayed from your initial theme. This is a spectacular poem!

My only advice for actually performing the poem is to stay away from the "sing-song" method of recitation. In recitation competitions, doing so will be fatal to your score. You can prevent this by first memorizing your poem and then recording it. Memorizing your poem allows you to perform it rather than read it.

Overall, this is an incredible poem and recitation! Good luck in the slam!
