Companionship

Laying alone on the gritty, ecru sand

the grains dance about your eyelashes, teasing

knowing you're envious of their dance partner.

The dunes sigh as the wind sifts through and carries

the whorls across the sky, creating

patterns against the azure landscape.

Five billion, ten billion, impossible to count

each grain of sand on the blushing skin of this beach.

Sometimes it's good to be one, immersed

in a crowd of many.

The closeness of each body, the

warmth emmitted gives off some sort of

comfort, a maternal feeling

and you're safe.

A companion is all you need, you think,

as you glance languishly at the

frolicking pebbles, tangoing in the

sunset breeze of the dusk.
