Coffin-Box Prophets

Location

So here I am. I’ve found my soap box.

See, that’s the hard thing about being different,

it’s tough to find a place to stand,

even harder to find a place to speak.

So here I am, I’ve found my soap box.

As I mount my stage, as I turn the page--

--gulp--

I don’t know what to say. Rather, I don’t know how it’s said.

See its the curse of humanity to put things in boxes.

We are the universe’s organizers,

fitting, sorting, jamming, cramming.

We stuff ourselves into the frames we like;

We crush our brothers in cages they can never fit.

Some people go in show cases, travel the world and flex their talents.

Others go in coffins,

And we try to shove them back into mother earth as if they have never been born.

We all have our soap boxes, some that light up and shine, reaching babylonian

heights-others that more resemble a stack of bundled sticks ready to be lit.

So here I am, to light the darkness, to make the smoke and the crowd glow with

more than their fury and racism.

I’m here to burn.

I’m here to shine.

So here I am. I’ve found my soap box.

Sitting up in my coffin-box I wait for the words to come.

What do I say? Hello. How are you? Hi,

Take your feet of the ground– why don’t you fly!

See, we all have our own little bit of influence,

Like our own little magnet buried in our chest,

Protruding from the surface–pulling people along and pushing others away.

We all have influence,

What we do makes a difference,

And its not about patience,

and “wait until your older, hon"–

Now’s about being bolder;

Making an inference and running with it.

No matter whether you're being chased or you’re last in the race,

It’s about the run.

Don’t wait for the shatteringly loud gun!

Just go! It’s just one race, but you’ve only got one.

So climb on up there, take your stand.

It will not matter whether they learn from you, or burn you,

Whether they raze or praise you,

What will matter is if you stood-

–Boldy in your coffin box–you stood.

You have influence that shall make a difference.

Don’t wait for the gun, just run.

You’ve only got one chance to be heard.

And it’s now.
