Coffee and Toast

whenever my grandparents come on down
my mother has to quick, run to town
for coffee, and an extra loaf
prepping for relatives, she hates the most

my old Grandpa Joe, oh
he takes it about as black as it goes
don't forget about that whole wheat
because plain white just doesn't cut the meat

It must be something that comes with age
Because Dad drinks a full pot every day
He hasn't had a heart attack like Grandpa Joe
But I fear he's not too far away though

Dad says, "It'll put hair on you chest."
Still, I drink only a half cup and throw the rest
To me Coffee is like a protein shake
I only gag it down for the energy it'll make

I don't mind coffee with toast
But at the consistency of stuffing
Coffee encroached toast
Is by far the most gross
