Clarity

Clarity

There’s a moment when you remember
The feeling you had when you were self-sufficient for the first time
Looking back
The moment is clear

You were once someone so frail –
You lost your mother before you could consider yourself an adult.
Wandering through your college campus alone for the first time
Wondering why she wasn’t there to ask you about your first day
It was so clear
So foreign

Give me some time to adjust
I’ll be okay
I just lost her
I need some time

You asked for forgiveness
A moment
Some time
You needed a second to think about how to mourn
To move on
To grow

Every moment was a crutch
Be easy on her
She’s not herself

But who are you?

Who were you before?
Who are you now?

Are you that scared girl who walked away from the hospital room?
Are you that scared girl who felt the need to explain herself every time she talked to someone?
Are you that person who was asked if she should really start her first job?
Are you that girl that didn’t know what to do at any given time?

No
You are not

You are the person you had hiding within you
Looking for a way to comfort yourself
Looking for a way to protect others
You are the person

She is proud of you
You have to let yourself see that

She’s proud of you
Your ability to look for the best in others
To understand that there’s someone within you

There’s a moment of clarity
Where you tell yourself
She’s okay
You’re okay

You’re okay
