Checking behind your shoulder constantlyCarrying

Location

Checking behind your shoulder constantly

Carrying pepper spray on your way home from night class

Parents telling their children "don't go off our street and don't talk to strangers"

Seeing news story after news story about the latest assult or missing person

This is not safety.

Being taught from the time you were little not to trust a stranger, not to leave your street

Children in fear of getting kidnapped

College kids in fear of walking alone at night

Adults in fear of someone hurting their family

This is not safety.

Safety is being a child and roaming your neighborhood until the street lights come on

Safety is being a college student and not being afraid of walking home alone

Safety is being an adult and not fearing for your families life when you hear a tragic story on the news

This is what needs to be changed.

People should feel safe in the place they call home
