Chains that Drown
Uncertain is the ground I walk.
Thin as a sheet of glass,
Or hard as a solid rock,
But neither my eyes can pass.
Wreckless is the game I play.
Stamping and stomping,
I walk to get through the day.
With each move I make,
A flash of silver chain is gained.
Linking together to bind my body.
In every mistake, I'm drained.
I trip and fall.
I slide and slip.
Still with my heavy footing,
Fear is only the tip.
Body bound,
And cracks begun,
With the mistakes i've made,
My song has been sung.
With a burst of air,
The chains drag me down.
Gasping and gulping,
Bodies are made to drown.
The ice chills my bones.
I writhe tearing and thrashing.
The chains buried in my flesh,
No strength to break my binding.
Each link I forged my own.
I'm helpless in a dying cold.
I should have known.
I should have known.
