Carried Away

Today would be memories of our journey

Together and apart,

Of struggles and triumphs over brokenness and unworthiness…

Today would be sweet nothings

funny stories

soft kisses

strong embraces…

Today would be a thanks-giving to each other

And to ourselves for getting here;

Today would be 4 at 6:28pm,

laughing, crying, intertwined,

seemingly forever

Holding the world at arm’s length

Until we were finished.

Today would be love and promise

But today is you, with her

And me

Quietly fighting to

Move forward.

Because what else do you do

When you have broken the heart of your lover,

And your own in

The process?

It was not our time,

We needed to heal.

But you have not come

back, so perhaps we

Were never each other’s,

But simply belonging

to several moments,

In which we got

Carried away.
