Calliope: Small Town Loner To Bustling Midwestern Poet

Fair as snowy days

Brunette beauty

Hair falls to her face

Delicately drifting to waves.

Children boast about goodies

But she, an expressive rookie

Words so intricate

Her voice, pure eloquence.

Father Zeus

Left children running

To different countries and states

Calliope strumming

Through Iowa’s midwestern haze.

Small town youth

Riding bikes through rocky roads

Lanes and stones

Curiosity striking innocent minds.

Summer’s a patriotic heaven

Her idealistic temperament

Ice cream,sunny days

Inspired the local jays.

Bright and wise

Calliope arised

Expanding thoughts

Reaching the charts.

Brilliant, insightful

Her mind so rightful

An assertive child

Impressed mentors around.

Tension arose

Between her and the others

So she secluded herself

To books and singing covers.

No muse compared

So they used her for fair share

Forced to join the choir

She didn’t want to bother.

Adult life struck harder

So she quit choir

Moved to Chicago

To become the poet

She long yearned.

In her hometown

Rumors began circulating

Of her relations with Ares

The highest colonel

Together birthed several sons.

Once lovers

Now they discovered

A bond no longer strong.

Calliope moved on

Found passion and inspiration

Navy Pier, her new suite

Writing to fill

Her now empty soul.

Struggling to break barriers

In this modern industrious city

Writing an understatement

Switched to alignment.

Supporting dreams

Takes pocket money

A vocal gift

A cabaret

Coined for talent.

Waited for a cab

Bumped into a man

Scholarly king of his family.

Eye to eye

They met and they liked

Oeagrus, his name

Almighty might.

Years poetry published

Works from her heart

Gradual success

Worth from the start.

Praised by writers

And the world around her

The new face

Of Chicago’s bookcase.

A white Christmas to come

Visited her hometown

Ares around

With a new wife crowned.

He cried his way back

Told Calliope

His wife meant nothing

A display of affection

Wasn’t enough for her attention.

Countdown

For a ball at top

New Years about to drop.

A party of wonder

An unexpected surprise

Oeagrus appeared

Pupils wide.

Years as best friends

Now newly weds

In the suburban town

Of Mystic, Connecticut.
