Brother Brother

Brother brother; fickle admirer:

I was there to watch you fall in love

I watched her heart glow for you

It grew in size and in her smile

And I knew it was meant to be

I wanted to think of her as forever

But you didn't feel the same

I tricked myself and you played her

Still I didn't doubt you

(And I dared to call her sister)

Where have you gone now?

I feel that it's been an eternity

Since I've seen you hold her hand

I love to think of your embrace

But now I question my felicity

You've been hiding

Behind panes of glass

You've been dressing up

Brother honestly--

Who have you become?

Brother brother; careful fighter:

I was there to hear your words

They were an angry cacophony

I felt for your mind and for your flesh

But I knew your soul was still steadfast

I wanted family to be what mattered

But you didn't feel the same

I bled for you and prayed for you

Still something was missing

(And I dared to act as the piece)

Why have you stopped beating?

I feel that it's been an eternity

Since I've glimpsed your pulse

I love to remember our embrace

But now I question my futility

Was she too much--

Was I too much?

Were we too much?

Brother honestly--

Were we not enough?
