Broken Family Tree

Sometimes I wonder how you feel
When people find out the real deal
Do you take it as compliments with grace
Or start spewing hatred in their face
I can imagine you look with disgrace
As they learn each of our traits
I’m sure it’s easier to complain
Rather than wanting to claim
Me on the other hand smile in pain
Knowing we were never to remain
Simple beings in different lanes
Each of us living our own way
My mistakes woven and frayed
With yours hidden with dismay
We’re the same any given day
Except I accept my true state
You dress up and play make believe
At the end of the day
You are you, and I am me
That’s why you are consistently
Suffocating every bit of air I need
Because you wish I wasn’t me
In a different time possibly
You all saw things more clearly
I wish you could just admit
That you needed me a little bit
With a deep breathe I regret
That we grew up with such contempt
These past months moved so fast
Plenty of time to look into the past
Loving from a distance seems to be best

This poem is about:
Me
My family
My community
My country
Our world
