Broken.

The cracking of the bone

echoed deep within my soul.

I faded in and out.

My limbs became cold.

What seemed like seconds

was more like hours.

The beeping was steady.

Guests came bearing flowers.

By my bedside

as if I had no more life to live.

Little did I know,

I had one less leg to give.

A simple break,

it could not be.

I peered under the sheets,

indeed, amputated above the knee.
