Break me again

It seemed so real when you were here
Like a flash you disappeared
All the memories I had to clear
Those empty champagne glasses with no one to cheer
That time I knew I had no one near
It felt like years but I shed no tears
Your absence gave me strength
So, I built up a wall for my defense
Made you sit up on a fence
And retained it for suspense
I think I know why I couldn't feel anything
Those cuts took time to heal
Hope now you can see my nerves of steel
Would love to see you break my shield
