Blood is Thicker Than Water

Location

“Blood is thicker than water”

I sputter as the taste of iron trickles down my throat,

And while my fatlip pours out with childhood sentiments.

In a way that hangs off my lips to be cleansed

The words forces its way out of my mouth

In a way that’s too familiar

In a way that brings me back to bittersweet lollies and dreams

I assure myself as I cripple down the street

Blood infused self-blame streaming down my arms and legs

Blame and identity that tore me away

Leaving dark purple hues of hate and disgust

Across my limbs, eyes, and neck

I can’t help but sneer,

“Blood is thicker than water.”
