Bitter

My daughter when you sleep

Dream of that world just for us

Include me in your picture

Frame us in your memories

Where our laughter curls like smoke

The prince will beckon you

In that land of fabrication

And the king will treat you fair

And the dragon will treat you ill

But you’ll be safe from our reality

The queen will send her mage for you

And her apple will taste bitter

Don’t fall too deeply in love, my child

Or else you’ll never return

I need you to return

Here we are not in danger of sinking

Here our sail bends to the wind

But I can’t help being afraid

Because your eyes are too real

Where they meet mine in the ocean

My daughter when the demons come

Hide behind these sparkling truths

They won’t solve your problems

Every puzzle comes in pieces

And you are made of hundreds

The prince will beckon you

In that land of imagination

And the king will treat you fair

And the dragon will treat you ill

But you’ll be safe in the clouds

The queen will send her mage for you

And her apple will taste bitter

Don’t fall too deeply in love, my child

Or else you’ll never remember

I need you to remember

Here we can be ourselves

Here we can scream out loud

But this isn’t where we belong

This land is too much for your sensations

And it will feast on your innocent heart

My daughter when you are alone

Remember where you are from

I regret not telling you of my love

I regret letting you wander off

Into that land of wonderful deception
