Like a Bird on the Wind

I want to be free like the wind

Free to come and go as I please

To soar high with the wings of a bird

Above all the mess

The wind calls to me

Delicately whispering my name

As I sit high atop my perch

Staring up at the birds

They swoop and dive

Riding the wind

To where they go I know not

But this I do know: I wish to follow

I, unlike the bird, have no wings

Trapped on this earth we hold so dear

Doomed to wallow in the mud

I do not belong

The wind ruffles my hair

As a mother would do to her child

I close my eyes and smile

Basking in her tender care

One bird cries aloud

Begging me to follow

But I know I cannot

Or can I?

The wind in my hair

I make my stand

Spreading my arms

Ready to set sail

I jump

My soul soaring with the birds

As I fly for the first and last time

I am finally home
