Because I Love You

Because I love you,

I will save you the last pizza slice,

I will order an XL French fry

even when you say you’re not hungry.

And I’ll buy your favorite chocolate,

For the times that you’re unhappy.

Because I love you,

I will wait for you to come home

to watch the newest episode of our favorite Netflix shows.

With the lights off, we’re both in the zone

Tracing the movements and words on the screen.

Cuddled under a warm blanket while curling our toes.

Because I love you,

I will share my greatest moments and my deepest fears.

You become a shoulder to lean on,

Offering an attentive listening ear.

We exchange our thoughts and dreams,

Shedding an occasional tear here and there.

Because I love you,

I support you and your decision

To take that new position

Although it may be far from me,

I know that is where you want to be.

I will miss seeing you every day,

But I know this will be worth it.

Because I love you,

I buy a ticket and hop onto a plane,

Without telling you in advance.

I have a surprise planned

for a special date.

Because I love you,

I’m getting cold feet,

Standing in front of your door.

Palms sweaty from fidgeting with the ring.

The barrier between us disappears,

And on your face, a smile appears.

Because I love you,

I straighten my tie and face you,

On one knee, I say the cheesy phrase,

Will you marry me?
