Beauty...A Concept
Beauty
A misunderstood, hopelessly articulated, constantly changing concept
The true meaning which has died
Buried under social media, magazines, models, makeup
Under designer clothes and fancy cars
Under physical alterations leading to mental exhaustion from the thought of not be good enough
Not being the ideal female
Not being perfect
An internal characteristic of the soul that has been materialized
Degraded to simply one’s physical appearance
No longer unique to individuals but a standard to society
How did we manage to so disgustingly transform the face of this word?
Beauty
Such a delicate aspect of the self
As fragile as a butterfly
Its wings burdened with plucked eyebrows, eye shadow, cosmetic contacts, eye liner, blush, bright shades of lipstick
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder
But I think this phrase has been misunderstood
Not the physical eye that sees the physical appearance
But as in a mental “eye” that can see into the soul
That understands one’s character
Beauty
It is not tangible
It is not a standard
It is a piece of the self
A characteristic of the self
Composed of the person and not of this world
It cannot be judged nor created by man
It is natural
It is you
Beauty
An internal characteristic rooted in the heart which glows from the inside out
If we could only grasp the true meaning as a whole
As a society
But it continues to be this misunderstood, hopelessly articulated, constantly changing
Each day even more degrading
