To Be Heard

She stares through the window

Thinking that someday somewhere

She will leave home

It’s an exciting terror,

A written memoir

She wants to hide from the world

Save her voice for later

She’s not ready to grow up

She still sees herself as a child

Because the world seems too wild

But they make her turn the dial

And she leaves all she knows

Like a free spirit, she leaves the herd

And she finally lets herself be heard
