The Baker and the Seamstress

There once was a baker named Blake the Great.
His scrumptious delights, no one could hate.
Blake’s Sweet Shop, known by all,
Couldn’t possibly ever appall.

Each day, the baker greeted his neighbor, May.
May was never glum and would always say, “Hey.”
Blake could remembered how much fun they had together, especially when they were young.
And oh, how he loved her voice when she sung!

The baker had always liked the freckled seamstress.
She reminded him of a beautiful princess!
Blake knew they would make the cutest couple,
Both of them with hair the color of charcoal.

Blake tried to make her smile every day.
“Vanilla cupcakes?” “Sure, thanks,” May would say.
They tasted delicious and could definitely beguile.
So vanilla cupcakes would make May smile.

Blake gathered the mail for her one a late afternoon.
May told him, “You should sometime stay for dinner soon.”
“Well how about tonight?” inquired Blake.
“That would work, but I have nothing to make.”

Blake replied, “Then how about I make dinner?
My vegetable stew is a real winner!
May grinned and answered, “I would love to!”
“Be over at my place by six for stew.”

Blake rushed back to his own house, across the street.
After completing the stew, a pie too sounded sweet.
Blake searched his recipe box for cherry pie.
But when he couldn’t find it, he thought he might die!

Blake remembered it was stashed in an old cookbook.
So right away, there he did take a look!
Then the masterpiece began to take shape.
When it was done, Blake’s mouth went agape!

The most beautiful pie he had ever made,
Blake knew there was no reason to be afraid.
He dressed himself in his favorite outfit
“I look like Brad Pitt!” Blake had to admit.

Meanwhile, May rushed to her closet to select the perfect dress.
Then she looked at her hair, and screamed, “What a mess!”
Belle’s Beauty Parlor sat right next door.
May thought, “Belle will surely have the cure!”

Belle always tried to play matchmaker.
Little did she know that May already loved the baker.
“Why don’t you get to know the baker?
He most definitely is not a faker!

The baker is always gifting you items.
I’ve even seen him take you blossoms!”
“Belle! Now stop, just let love continue on its own way.”
“Fine, fine, whatever you say!”

Six o’clock finally came, and May did not delay.
She only hoped she’d find a few words to say.
As May was about to knock, she noticed a note.
“A handwritten note?! What a dreamboat!”

‘Beautiful May, I have loved you since we were young,
Even more so whenever you sung.
Come and delight in this dinner with me,
We belong together, I think you’ll agree!”

May did agree and thought this was sweet.
All her fears instantly felt defeat!
She stepped inside his abode and called for the wonderful Blake.
When he approached her with flowers, May knew this was no mistake.

They talked about everything, and the supper tasted fine.
But May could only focus on the way their personalities intertwined.
Time was fading and the short walk home, May knew she would dread,
But before she left, Blake pulled out another note and read,

“I loved visiting with you tonight,
And remembered how you’re always such a delight!
Your beautiful smile makes the whole room shine,
So May, please, marry me, and say you’ll be mine!”

May gently kissed him and answered a dominant, “Yes!
I couldn’t envision it any other way,” she did confess.
With that, May smiled the biggest smile she could.
“And I would most gladly enter wifehood!”

Belle was the first person they decided to tell,
And the whole town could hear her yell!
All the invitations were sent.
The couple just couldn’t wait for this marvelous event!

Blake, of course, baked the cake,
With frosting the color of a snowflake,
As May sewed the tuxedos and dresses.
All the while, their love continually hid all the engagement stresses.

After a few months, Blake and May got married,
And they made the cutest couple indeed.
They didn’t live quite happily ever after,
But still had fun and lots of laughter!
