Autumn's Last Stand

Location

Autumn breaks the sultry spell of summer,

Counters the interminable chant with

Wind whispered incantations of wonder

That weave darker tales and mesmeric myths.

Into Autumn’s cauldron living things fall,

Emerge beauties, warriors of color

In a beast of a world that heeds death’s call,

Suffocates beauty with winter’s collar.

Solemnly bittersweet hexes command

The dark, catalyzing the growth of night,

While the woods takes its climatic last stand,

Bravely executing battles of light

Until Autumn’s soldiers kneel, surrender,

Silent and frozen in time they slumber.
