Aspiration

As soon as the sun rises or falls,

I begin to pray

That one day we will hear

Our children, black or white, all play

And never worry about the vexations

Of trials and tribulations.

I want to hear on the news

That our fight is over.

Now together, we’ll conquer the world with love.

And with the love we all hope for,

I do wish, I do pray

We get it.

But ignorance of the mind may tell

Some people to say, “Don’t be so naive,”

“Don’t dream of something unrealistically swell.”

But if the fight continues, so will my dreams of naivety.

We will strive for something that needs to be done,

And together, WE WILL OVERCOME
