Arrested Development

Dear Father,

Why do you even bother

Telling my little brother

That you'll have to make it another

Time when you'll probably not

You act like you're not all that he's got

Cause I don't love you, but he still does

Maybe he can't remember just how it was

Or he just chooses not to

I guess I've got to

Admire that guileless power

While I stand here a childish coward

Afraid to love you

Needing to rise above you

And your goddamn bottle

You left us both empty

Forgiveness is so tempting

But that's too easy

You don't deserve such a pleasing

Ending

We'll just keep on pretending

Like we're destined to do

When I say "I'm glad you're gone"

And when you say "I love you"

                                                                                  Unfortunately yours,

                                                                                                         Kiddo
