Always Have Family

When you have nothing

You should always have family

That’s what they say.

Your family should have your back

And love you

No matter what.

Nothing can take you

Away from them

Except. It can

Family can leave you.

Fathers flee

Mothers move aside

All of a sudden

You are so

So alone

There is no

Guarantee

That anyone will stay

Blood is nothing

Not a promise

Not a bond

You can choose

Who becomes your

Family

You don’t owe

Your blood

Anything

This poem is about:
Me
My family

It was recently my 18th Birthday and I had to come to terms with the fact that I don't owe my family anything. I don't need to feel guilty for taking care of myself.
