Almost Lovers: A Sonnet.
Location
We were almost loverd a long time ago,
Two young minds entwined through intimate play,
thoughts waltzing together in endless flow,
reaching for a fleeting moment that would skip away.
An imaginary brush of soft lips, a harsh caress
finers always afraid, holding back from the other.
Darling, the unwritten rule, yield hidden finesse.
Keep steady, for your life love can so easily smother.
Obvious ti everyone, for so easily we walked on air
together our hearts racing as if sprinting a marathon,
yet never beating loud enough for the other to hear.
The artful guess of unseen affections: an awful warzone.
Today, even together, we rightfully think ourselves to be alone.
Maturity's eyes see, our now lost love was real and unknown.
