Allowed

Walking along the halls

Like any other day

Going to the band room

To melt the stress away

I see my band director

Doing a normal task

I walk on over to him

Since I have something to ask

“Do you need help afterschool?” I ask as the drum major

He kept working and said

“We have enough people, but thank you”

I was in shock, but nodded my head

Later that day

I started to see

That this program

Would continue without me

College awaits

You’re destined for more

College awaits

Don’t cry any more

This is my chance

To make everyone proud

This is my chance

To realize that growing up is allowed
