All It Takes Is One Person

They ignore the signs

They ignore her cries for help

They stare away at the skyline

No one calls her "mine"

No one asks "what's wrong?"

They just sit down and drink wine

But some have heard the cries too long

The sounds ringing in their ears

Her pain still hidden behind closed doors

The sight is almost unbearable

The sight of her arms chilled them to their cores

But they keep walking

They hold it in

They stay away gawking silently

Acting as they had been before

Her depression and anxiety gets worse

The internal pain becoming too much

Having cut her body already,

She holds the knife to her throat

And then he asks, "How can I help you?"

She drops the knife and turns to face him

He sees the tears running down her face

At first he stares

Then he does the unexpected

He hugs her, he doesn't let go, not for awhile

He pulls back and looks at her

The tears are uncontrollable but he doesn't care

Then he says it

He says the words she's always wanted to hear

The words that keep her living

Even when she feels there is nothing else

He said, "I'll never leave your side."

And then, months later

She was clean

And he said, "I love you."
