Afterlife

gray clouds suffocate a meaningless sky

street lights reflect in adolescent eyes

bittersweet rain pierces the silence

the void rumbles and wails

it despairs at her absence

the agonizing moans echo for miles

she twirls her head around

resonating footsteps hesitantly approach

pitter-patter, pitter-patter

epiphany

her tiptoes turn to trudges

desperation turns to anguish

her eyes grow wider, colder

the heavy downpour ebbs to a drizzle

the girl falters and fades

and although she tries

although she grabs at lingering memories

she is still forgotten

with each footprint washed away
