After A Summer Shower

After the rain

The forest weeps,

So the frogs with the red eyes laugh.

Trees' mossy beards

Drip solemn, grey,

Still the frogs with the red eyes laugh.

When wet leaves rise

From baptism

Then the frogs with the red eyes laugh

So loud, abrupt

A croak rasps out

As the frogs with the red eyes laugh,

And on and on

Come rain, come storm,

Will the frogs with the red eyes laugh.

Irreverent

At nature's tricks

We the frogs with the red eyes laugh.
