Achilles and Patroclus
I know that you,and Patroclus,
tried to steal time from the Fates
But Achilles, the Fates are brutal
You ask what Hector has ever done to you,
and he has not,not yet.
Although the Gods make sure
that the Fates play cruel games
with heroes like yourself.
So, what has Hector ever done to you, Achilles?
Only driven a sword through Patroclus' abdomen
and watched on in mild horror,
and disappointment
as Patroclus drew his last, shuddering breaths
and he realises that it is not your face
that lies gasping, underneath your armour.
Realized that it is not the harsh, determined face of war and warriors,
but the kind, gentle one of a healer and lover.
What has Hector ever done to you, Achilles?
Only killed the one person in this universe
you would pick above the Gods themselves,
and even above yourself.
Such is the potency of this truth,
that on the cruel dawn
you picked your hubris
which Patroclus disguised as,
-believed to be- his wishes
over your worries of losing him,
Patroclus, your soul.
What, indeed, has Hector ever done to you,
Achilles?
It is just you, and your brutal fate,
intertwined with Patroclus'.
No hero is ever happy, my dear Achilles,
none of them.
And Hector just played his part
in ensuring that.
In ensuring that you kill him,
overcome by the combined rage of grief,
and that of guilt.
